Planning Center ROCKS!

I love Planning Center Online.  It Rocks.  It runs my ministry.  The awesome tech support I have received has been amazing.  I could go on and on but you have to check it out.  They just made some more updates today. Read about it here.  My favorite is text messaging! AH YEAH!

Here is what we use it for:

  • Manage Band
  • Manage Tech people
  • Manage all volunteers for before/after and during our services
  • Manage all Lifegroup leaders
    • Provide training materials as a downloadable attachment
  • Plan services
  • Communication between Adult and Student Ministries
  • Communication to all our volunteers

I encourage you to watch this video to get a small taste of what PCO can do.

Heavenly Father vs Earthly Father

So during my quiet time tonight I was reading 2 Kings 4 and God spoke to me about meeting my family’s needs and taking care of us.  I began to pray after reading and had an amazing conversation w/ God.  Anyways while praying for my kids I hear Luke start crying in the back bedroom.  So I think it’s probably no big deal because he has been whiny today.  I felt God impress on my heart that He is always there for me and I should go be there for my son.

I get in the room and he is laying on the bed crying, “I want Pikachu!”  He was playing his Nintendo DS and was sad because he lost Pikachu character on the game.  I had two choices.  Say, “Ah it’ll be alright.  It’s just a game.” or “Son, you’re a great Pokemon player and I’m sure if you try hard you can get him back eventually.”  I chose the second.  He immediately picked up his DS and started trying again.

I love how when you pray and read God’s Word you are changed.  PERIOD.  If I had not just left quiet time w/ my Father, I honestly probably would not have reacted the same way as I did.  Also I think it’s great to note that God is concerned about the little things in our lives.  I don’t really have a vested interest in Luke’s Pokemon playing.  But I do care that he was genuinly hurt.  That’s the same for our heavenly Father.  I don’t have “In A Pit With A Lion…”with me, but if I did I would quote the part where Mark talks about the floating ax head story in the Bible.  Go read the book.  But only if you’ve read the Bible today. It’s more important.

Saddleback Civil Forum Video

In case you missed it here is part 1 of The Saddleback Civil Forum. I was at a Dave Matthews Concert while this was happening so I missed it.  Just a side note, Jimmie Davidson (The Senior Pastor from my previous church) was there in the crowd.

All new twitter users – Read this

Found this article on Twitter etiquette and thought I would share it.  Some of my favorite quotes:

10. Try to keep within the character limit.

13. Plug moderately.

Now, you already have a phone, an email account, a blog—but what about the moments too small to blog? (Snacking on pretzels.) Too insignificant to email? (The twisty kind of pretzels.) They’re happening every second! How can you share the moments between the moments worthy of note? Enter Twitter.

Sharing Life Together

So tonight was crazy @ our house.  I had myself convinced my wife and daughter were dead/kidnapped/broken down who knows what.  The video below pretty much tells the story.  I would just like to add that it’s crazy how when you love somebody so much and how much you can worry about them.  I kept praying God I know your in control and I trust you, but please just give me something, I can’t stand not knowing.

Anyways. Enjoy the video. Remember this was shot @ 12:00 am and we just had a really long week and weekend are totally exhausted.  So while right now I am thinking it is hilarious. Tomorrow I may not find it so hilarious!

Leroi Moore of Dave Matthews Band dies

Sheesh. Just heard via twitter that Leroi Moore died.  Here is the article from AP.  I can’t believe this just 3 days ago the band met up with him in the hospital and everything was going fine.

Pray for his family and friends and of course the band.  Also pray for Dave. I pray for him a lot to experience Jesus in a real way.  I would love to hear the praise songs he could write as a serious Christ follower!

My Awesome weekend

  • Dave Matthews concert @ the woodlands Friday night with my lovely wife!  Blogged here about it.
  • Saturday left Houston @ 11:45 am drove to Dallas to meet Matt. He gave me a tour of Watermark. Awesome building and sounds like an amazing church. I’ll post pics soon.
  • Went to Dave Matthews concert @ 7ish. It was an amazing show.
  • Left Dallas around 2 am – got to Houston @ 6 am
  • Went to church @ 7 am – Truth band was playing in Route 56
  • After church had King of the Beach draft
  • Then rehearsal
  • Then King of the Beach

So I was up for 37 hours straight. Been a long time since I’ve done that.  It was totally worth it! Two nights of back to back Dave shows.

Twitter – What's The Point

**UPDATE**  Here is another example of Twitters Awesomeness!

I twitter. I love it. You would love it. Follow me on twitter here.

I get asked all the time, “What’s the point of twitter?”  Here we go. 4 reasons

  1.  Friends/Family – Since I have recently moved across the country twitter is a great way for me to stay in touch with my friends and family from Virginia and my new friends here in Texas.  Also every day twitter sends all my “twit’s” for the day to my blog.  My family and friends can see what I have been up to.
  2. Archiving my life – I have 3 kids.  I wish I had twitter when my first 2 were younger.  I can twitter things my kids do and will be able to back and search to see what day they started walking, first time they flew, etc.  Any milestones in their lives.  Also I can know what day I went to that conference, special event, etc.
  3. Ministry Resource – I follow a lot of people on twitter.  They each have different jobs but they give me ideas that I can use in ministry.  See list below to start following some of my followers.
  4. Ministry Tool – A lot of people in my ministry use twitter. It’s just another way to connect to people if I can’t get a hold of them.
