Daddy's Arms

So I was letting the kids play the other day @ the Truth Building and all of a sudden Tyra starts screaming and comes running towards me. I lift her up and hold her to tight to my chest and she immediately stops crying.

I just thought it’s funny how that happens. Whether small or large “boo-boo’s” the pain lessens when my kids are in my arms.

Just reminded me of how our Father is with us. When we hurt he wants to hold us and let us know He is there and that he cares and hurts with us.

When’s the last time you let your Heavenly Father hold you?

Quiet Time 4.30.08

Ecc 9:7-18

7 Seize life! Eat bread with gusto, Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure!

8 Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves.

9 Relish life with the spouse you love Each and every day of your precarious life. Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange For the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one!

10 Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, For there’s neither work to do nor thoughts to think In the company of the dead, where you’re most certainly headed.

11 I took another walk around the neighborhood and realized that on this earth as it is— The race is not always to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor satisfaction to the wise, Nor riches to the smart, Nor grace to the learned. Sooner or later bad luck hits us all.

12 No one can predict misfortune. Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds in a trap, So men and women are caught By accidents evil and sudden. Wisdom Is Better than Muscle 13 One day as I was observing how wisdom fares on this earth, I saw something that made me sit up and take notice. 14 There was a small town with only a few people in it. A strong king came and mounted an attack, building trenches and attack posts around it. 15 There was a poor but wise man in that town whose wisdom saved the town, but he was promptly forgotten. (He was only a poor man, after all.) 16 All the same, I still say that wisdom is better than muscle, even though the wise poor man was treated with contempt and soon forgotten.

17 The quiet words of the wise are more effective Than the ranting of a king of fools.

18 Wisdom is better than warheads, But one hothead can ruin the good earth.

Verse 9 – I’m looking forward to my date night with my wife this Friday! I am falling in love with her all over again since moving to Houston!

God has all understanding and knowledge

Read this in my quiet time today.

Proverbs 2

It was just cool because I’m not gonna lie, I am stressed.  I am preaching this Wednesday for the first time @ Truth.  I also have had to communicate to the band, vocalist, tech team, creative team, etc about everything going on this Wednesday.  So this morning I prayed that I wouldn’t stress and that God would give me knowledge of what to say to the hurting students.  Then in quiet time the Bible said:

1 My son, if you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,

2 turning your ear to wisdom

and applying your heart to understanding,

3 and if you call out for insight

and cry aloud for understanding,

4 and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure,

5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD

and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the LORD gives wisdom,

and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

I'm Your Uncle Barry!

I’m Your HuckleBerryLuke Got this gun and holster today. I told him to go say to his mommy, “I’m your huckleberry”. Instead he went in there and said, “I’m your uncle barry!”

Name that tune!

Can you name this song that he is singing backwards?

Take for Granted

Yesterday’s Staff meeting made me think about something.

What do I take for granted. I realized in staff that I sometimes take prayer for granted. I ask things and forget to think about them and sometimes I ask with doubt that it will happen without believing God will do it. So I started thinking about what else I take for granted.

  • Prayer – I pray a lot, but need to change my focus more often
  • Holy Spirit – If I was aware of him every second of my life, what more could I accomplish?
  • Wife (who is amazing)
  • Kids (I know everyone says this, but I really do have the coolest kids in the world)
  • Mom and Grandparents – they have always been there for me and my family
  • My job – I have the greatest job in the world
  • Wealth – this one’s kind of funny, because we are no where near rich according to most standards. But I don’t know many people my age with a house and all our stuff. Plus not to mention wealth of the other type (family, love, grace, etc)

Thoughts before bed

  • While tucking in the kids – I was telling Luke and Mia how much I am blessed to have them and how much I love them.  Luke kept saying, “say it again daddy.”  I just thought that was cool.  We need to do that with our Father!  Keep begging him to speak to us through His word.
    • I don’t remember how we got started but, we were talking about Jesus.  Mia said, “Luke doesn’t know about Jesus yet does he?”  I said he does, just not made the commitment.  Mia said, “Can I tell him my favorite story?”  Not knowing what her favorite story was, I said yes.  She proceeded to tell him about Jesus dying on the cross for him to take away his sins.  🙂  I love being a daddy!
  • Checking out flock.  I like the idea, but so far the GUI is not a homerun with me.  We’ll see though.  Gotta give it a little more time.
  • Had a great staff meeting today.  It was great to be still for the Lord.  I need to do more of that.  The God stories were way cool too.  I am blown away to have the opportunity to serve @ Highlands!
    • One of the best was having 8,000 people visit our campus for our Festival of Life.  For those of you that aren’t from around here, our town only has 10,000 people in it!
  • Met with youth about Christmas services this evening.  We are going to make a pretty cool video based on this drama.  I’ll upload it when we get done!
  • That’s it… Goodnite!

Great statement from Perry Noble

Read this great blog just now and this line really stuck out to me.

…the thing that bothers me is that when people think they are deep because they know a lot of information and they are able to confuse others about Christ rather than lead them to Him.

Man I got a ton of that @ school. All the stupid arrogant people that think they know it all, and all they do is push people further away from understanding Christ.

Give me Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and who will one day return…not another Bible study on the weight of the Ark of the Covenant.

Just read that line and had to add it in!

It's Been Awhile

Wow, I haven’t blogged in a while.  It’s kind of a shame because I have had a lot of blog-worthy events going on.

  • Top of the list – I got to baptize my daughter.  That definitely ranks up there with one of the best days of my life.  It was an unforgettable experience.  It’s pretty awesome to baptize anyone and I’ve had that opportunity a few times, but this was the best.  I also baptized my two cousins Autumn & Eli on the same day.
  • My grandmother had a very bad accident.  I am still praising God because she walked away without a scratch.  She called me while in the car after the accident telling me she had a wreck.  I didn’t think it was that bad, but when I pulled up to the scene there were 3 Counties and 2 ambulances.  That kind of freaked me out.  I walked down into the ditch and first thing she did was hand me the check she was delivering to me.  She was on her way to see me @ the church office.  I knew then she was ok. 🙂  They put her on a stretcher and took her to the hospital for x-rays.  Everything came back ok and they sent her home.  She is still sore today, but doing great!
  • Today is my last day before I take a week of vacation!  WHOOO-HOOOO!
  • Had Lost night last night, never noticed before – but in the episode “Adrift” of season 2 the shark in the water has a Dharma logo near it’s tail.
  • Halo 3 is AWESOME!
  • Bought Madden 08 with my birthday money from my Grandparents in Florida.  It is awesome.  Currently I’m doing the superstar mode because I don’t have much time to play and that way I get to play only when my player is on the field.

I know I’m missing something I wanted to blog about, but oh well. That’s what happens when you don’t do it everyday.
